L'orme est une espèce nitrophile, très exigeante par rapport au sol et qui demande beaucoup d'humus. L'écorce d'orme était autrefois considérée comme une panacée des problèmes de peau. Le bourgeon présente un profil thérapeutique analogue.
Grand draineur de la peau, l'orme agit dans les eczémas suintant, vésiculeux, inflammatoire non encore infecté. Il est recommandé dans diverses dermatoses inflammatoires comme l'acné, l'herpès, la furonculose.
